The Estate dates back to the 12th Century and has been recounted in publications from 1640 onwards. In 1490 the Estate passed to the Chichester family, branches of which are evident across the local area including Arlington Court, now in the hands of the National Trust and situated 3 miles away on the A39.
The House was featured in Country Life in the 1960’s and was the childhood home of Sir Francis Chichester and one of the bedrooms was his school-room.
It's the combination of the history, the architecture and the situation of the house, within a landscaped parkland of 160 acres that makes it such a memorable place for your holiday. Privacy, grand furnishings, rooms designed in a privileged age – but available to you now.
Guests (who are interested) enjoy a far more detailed history which is available at the house..
